One of the programs we’re most excited about is our recording studio, which uses only analog recording equipment. Using analog equipment to record is rare these days, since so much of this technology has been replaced by digital equipment that is expensive, difficult to repair, and can’t produce the same sounds that analog can. We’re excited to be able to continue a lineage of DIY analog recording, and to be able to offer it in ways that can support musicians who might not be able to afford other options for recording or who are otherwise outsiders.

We want to offer analog recording at affordable rates, so we charge $40 per hour for non-members and $35 per hour for members, plus the cost of the reel of tape we use to record, (around $100). EAM wants to give artists full agency over their work. We let musicians recording with us do whatever they want with their own recordings, including making their own copies to sell. To support our ability to fund the studio, we ask that artists also let us make an initial run of 100 recordings to sell at our merchandise tables and in our store. If recording artists want us to make another run of their recordings to sell in our store, we split the money between the artist and the studio 50/50.
